last weekend was my birthday! i wasn't particularly looking forward to it - i thought i'd finally hit the age where birthdays aren't as fun as they once were and i preferred it to be a non-event, but thanks to my wonderful friends and family i ended up having a really lovely weekend. it started on the thursday evening when i went to the night noodle markets in hyde park with a friend from work, and after dinner we wandered over to the newly opened ladurée where i bought myself a little birthday present! the flavours were salted caramel, blackcurrant violet, strawberry marshmallow and orange blossom and i treated myself to one of the beautiful little boxes, which is now sitting with the marie antoinette box i bought at the ladurée on the champs-élysées in paris.
after ladurée we happened to walk past the new topshop store on its opening night so we had a look around and i bought a pair of hedgehog earrings! just quietly, between the ladurée and the topshop i liked to pretend to myself that i was back in europe for the night! on the friday after work i went out to dinner with my parents and my brother & his girlfiend at a lovely restaurant on the harbour. my actual birthday was on saturday and i don't have any photos from that day just yet because i haven't had the film developed, so i'll save talking about that for another post. but on sunday my parents had booked a helicopter ride for the three of us over sydney which was really incredible!
after the helicopter ride we went to a great little italian restaurant in haberfield for lunch, then drove to balmain where i made my parents stop at the markets (they're not fans of people's second hand things, haha) and we wandered around the shops and stopped in at adriano zumbo's patisserie and bought the aptly named "happy birthday" mousse cake for later.
Oh wow. So much goodness in this post! I collect Laduree boxes too. And the helicopter trip is just amazing!
ReplyDeleteit looks and sounds like a birthday from a dream. Laduree gives special feeling for everything. Oh, and how I love the earrings you bought.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, it looks like you had an amazing time!
ReplyDeleteThat helicopter ride just looks epic xoxo
Oh it looks like you had a great weekend! Happy Birthday dear!
ReplyDeletehappy belated birthday!! sounds like you had a lot of fun. ladurée is so good! :)) and a helicopter ride, how cool! looking forward for the rest of the pics o/
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! Everything sounds so so good!
ReplyDeleteOne of the pictures is totally perplexing me - the one with the four sail boats, there are a much of colors under water. Is that natural or is something there?
i was really confused by it too! i didn't see anything under the water but maybe i was just too busy taking photos, but i liked the photo so i kept it anyway.
DeleteSounds like a lovely weekend - you can never be too old for birthdays!! ^__^
ReplyDeleteAw, happy birthday :) I absolutely love your photos of the harbour by the way, the helicopter ride sounds like such a fantastic idea!
ReplyDeleteOh, your birthday looked so fun and delicious! I really miss Ladurée! I really need to go to Sydney so I can get more, as well as try the Adriano Zumbo ones too. The helicopter ride looks amazing, Sydney definitely has some lovely views with the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. I can't wait to go there one day!
ReplyDeletedefinitely come visit one day! if nothing else the laduree and zumbo macarons are a reason in themselves, aside from the rest of the city, haha.
Deletehappy birthday! sounds like you had a great day! these photos are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! SO great that your friends and family made your birthday so special.
ReplyDeleteLove all your photos and it looks like you had an amazing time!
GURL, YOUR BIRTHDAY WEEKEND IS AWESOME. No but seriously, I'm stunned at how awesome your birthday was, Ladurée + helicopter flight + birthday pastry + family + a mysterious day where lots of film was taken and now waiting to be developed = really darn good. And I absolutely adore your photos, especially the ones featuring food and the shots from the helicopter. You lucky bastard.
ReplyDeleteAh, and of course, a happy belated birthday. I almost forgot.
Deleteaww, thank you!! ^_^ it really did turn out to be a pretty great birthday weekend after all. :)

Oh, Happy Birthday!! I'm an October baby too! Glad you had a good time even if you're at "that age". lol! Me too! I figure it's time to stop using birthdays to celebrate another year and use it to celebrate ourselves. Happy Birthday!!!! (Yeah, I said it twice.) :)
ReplyDeleteaww, thank you! ^_^ & that's a great idea, celebrating ourselves instead of just getting another year older, haha. i'll try and think of it like that next year!
Deletehappy birthday honey, great post

can you pleasie to a "how-to" post about how you take/edit/photoshop your photos!? i know you use film, and that has it's own effect and feel to it, but i'd love to know what you do to your digital images! do you apply a filter over it? how do you make the colours look so yummy and dreamy? they always look amazing :) also, do you use a flash? do you have a light set-up/ or just natural light? like the ones in your bedroom, are they taken near an open window?
ReplyDeleteladuree is amazing! your birthday/ weekend looks so wonderful :) i hope your had a loverly day !
xxx
thank you! i might do a detailed post on this kind of thing soon, but firstly i'll adjust the colouring of the photo in lightroom and then i have a bunch of pre-set curves and actions in photoshop that i've found all over the internet (there's a lot of free ones people have made on deviantart that are a good starting point) and i just play around with it until it feels right.
Deletei never use flash and i don't have any kind of light set up or professional equipment at all. my recent oufit photos were just taken in natural light while i was standing near a window and then i've lightened the pictures and adjusted the colours in lightroom and photoshop. hope this helps a little! :)
