a few weeks ago one of my best friends in the whole world got married! i do have photos of the wedding for future posts but for now here are some photos from the hen's night which was a few weeks before that. the bridal party was only the three of us - hannah (the bride), her sister prue and me, but their mum joined us for the afternoon as well. being the maid of honour i booked us a beautiful high tea at the victoria room which is not to be confused with the high tea at the queen victoria building's tea room, although that's really easy to do as they have basically the same name. i've had high tea at both tea rooms and they're both lovely, though at the victoria room you get to choose your own flavour from their dedicated scone menu. i went with cranberry, lemon and pistachio and it was delicious!
rather than go the tacky strippers-and-penis-shaped-straws route, hannah wanted a much quieter evening, so after high tea and a bit of shopping we went back to hannah's parent's place where we built a fort out of beanbags and doonas (or duvets/quilts for non-australians) and stayed up until 4am watching our favourite disney movies involving princesses who get married on VHS. aladdin was first up of course (he's both hannah's and my number one disney crush), followed by the little mermaid, beauty & the beast and cinderella. hannah and prue also broke out their onesies and i would have too if i owned one, and they drank lots of prue's homemade sangria.
Congrats to Hannah! You organised a really lovely hen's night, I think I would definitely prefer fancy scones and tea over penis shaped items, haha.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your lovely friend! This is probably the most awesome "hen's night" planned. The typical craziness is just tacky and overdone. I would love to have a high tea like this!
ReplyDeleteOh, such lovely photographs (as always).
ReplyDeleteIt looks like such a wonderful night! I'm pretty envious, actually.
Also, I was curious as to what brand of film scanner you use? I'm on the hunt for a new one but I'm really not sure what to look for. You film photographs are always so clear and perfect (my film scanner scans through my shots heaps grainy and low quality)
canoscan 9000f! i'll give you some more info on the scanner over on your blog just in case you don't see this though but i'd definitely recommend it. :)
DeleteYou organised a really cute hen's night! What about your pics? Lovely, as always!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and LOVE it. So many beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like my kind of hen do ;)

the photos are incredible!! and so much yummie stuff...omg!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like such a fun day and such a lovely way sending your friend into marriage! I'm definitely not into the whole stripper/penis straws thing myself. One of my best friends recently got married and she did the whole topless waiter and nude men puzzles, haha. She wore the hot pink 'bride to be' sash too and commented that I probably wouldn't wear something like that, lol. Definitely not my cup of tea! I never used to think about weddings and marriage stuff, but I just want to have a big party Marie Antoinette style with colourful macaron towers when I get married!

haha i'm the same, i'd love a huge marie antoinette style party! definitely a far sight away from penis straws and topless waiters!
DeleteWow, that place looks amazing! I would take that any day over dildos and make strippers!

I have never heard it called Hen's night before, but this tea looks absolutely amazing! I love the picture of you and the sisters in their onesies too, it looks like such a fun night, great job!
ReplyDeletexo Hannah
haha really? i thought that was just the standard name for it! what do you call it?
DeleteOh how perfect!!! I've always hated the idea of hens nights because like you said, they typically involve strippers and penis straws...but this is seriously amazing! If I get married I would definitely love to do something like this. It all looks so beautiful, delicious and very tasteful - what a perfect prelude to your friends perfect day :)
ReplyDeleteCelebrating your best friend's wedding, it sounds so exciting and there are a lot of yummy foods there. I like the idea of going to her parent's place, looks so fun! and lovely pictures, as always!
ReplyDelete'Hen's night' is new to me. We call it a bachelorette party. Looks like you had a great time. :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks absolutely lovely - congrats to your friend! I helped organise a hen do for my friend a couple of weeks ago, and we did afternoon tea too - so fun!

ReplyDeleteThis is just lovely! I adore tea parties and think they are so sweet for hens, but that's my personality coming through too. Good job on putting it together even down to the movies!
ReplyDeleteAll of these photos are so dreamy and ethereal. So beautiful! Also really jealous — I sooooo want to go to a little get-together like this. Tea and yummy cakes? Hells yes. x
