Not Your Typical Hen's Night

a few weeks ago one of my best friends in the whole world got married! i do have photos of the wedding for future posts but for now here are some photos from the hen's night which was a few weeks before that. the bridal party was only the three of us - hannah (the bride), her sister prue and me, but their mum joined us for the afternoon as well. being the maid of honour i booked us a beautiful high tea at the victoria room which is not to be confused with the high tea at the queen victoria building's tea room, although that's really easy to do as they have basically the same name. i've had high tea at both tea rooms and they're both lovely, though at the victoria room you get to choose your own flavour from their dedicated scone menu. i went with cranberry, lemon and pistachio and it was delicious!

rather than go the tacky strippers-and-penis-shaped-straws route, hannah wanted a much quieter evening, so after high tea and a bit of shopping we went back to hannah's parent's place where we built a fort out of beanbags and doonas (or duvets/quilts for non-australians) and stayed up until 4am watching our favourite disney movies involving princesses who get married on VHS. aladdin was first up of course (he's both hannah's and my number one disney crush), followed by the little mermaid, beauty & the beast and cinderella. hannah and prue also broke out their onesies and i would have too if i owned one, and they drank lots of prue's homemade sangria.

  1. Congrats to Hannah! You organised a really lovely hen's night, I think I would definitely prefer fancy scones and tea over penis shaped items, haha.

  2. Congratulations to your lovely friend! This is probably the most awesome "hen's night" planned. The typical craziness is just tacky and overdone. I would love to have a high tea like this!

  3. Oh, such lovely photographs (as always).
It looks like such a wonderful night! I'm pretty envious, actually.

Also, I was curious as to what brand of film scanner you use? I'm on the hunt for a new one but I'm really not sure what to look for. You film photographs are always so clear and perfect (my film scanner scans through my shots heaps grainy and low quality)

  7. This sounds like such a fun day and such a lovely way sending your friend into marriage! I'm definitely not into the whole stripper/penis straws thing myself. One of my best friends recently got married and she did the whole topless waiter and nude men puzzles, haha. She wore the hot pink 'bride to be' sash too and commented that I probably wouldn't wear something like that, lol. Definitely not my cup of tea! I never used to think about weddings and marriage stuff, but I just want to have a big party Marie Antoinette style with colourful macaron towers when I get married!

  10. Oh how perfect!!! I've always hated the idea of hens nights because like you said, they typically involve strippers and penis straws...but this is seriously amazing! If I get married I would definitely love to do something like this. It all looks so beautiful, delicious and very tasteful - what a perfect prelude to your friends perfect day :)

  22. This is definitely my kind of hens night! What a sweet idea, and I love that it goes against everything we know (and that I hate) about the hens party norm!
