my parents recently came back from their 30th anniversary trip to europe and while they didn't feel the need to take me with them (despite all those hints i dropped) they did bring back lots of presents! i sent my mum off with a list of skincare and makeup to look out for in case she could find things cheaper in the shops than they are online and she managed to buy most of the things on the list along with a few surprises from guerlain.
it's a tradition for me to get a new bottle of perfume whenever my parents go overseas (i'm a bit perfume obsessed let's be honest) and although i'd never smelled guerlain's la petite robe noire before my mum chose it for me and i love it. when she was buying it the sales assistant told her the 100ml bottle also came in a gift set with the body lotion (or ~velvet body milk~) for the same price, so of course she bought the set. it's really quite a warm fragrance with a creamy, floral base of rose, almond and vanilla and with fruity top notes of sour cherry and bergamont. and of course the packaging is just beautiful. she also surprised me with a bottle of guerlain's meteorites base perfectrice pearls which is a light diffusing illuminating primer that, apart from having a really cool name, is also absolutely beautiful! i'm the adoring owner of paul & joe's bon bon primer which i'll write a post about in the near future, and i'd proudly shown it to my mum before she left because it might be the prettiest thing i've ever owned, so when she saw the guerlain version while away she must have been feeling generous because she bought the pink version for me!
as for the products i'd asked for, i'm sure none of them really need any introduction to beauty-obsessed bloggers as they seem to be pretty standard items that i needed to add to my collection, but they the caudalie vinosourse SOS thirst quenching serum for added hydration, the REN glycolactic skin renewal peel mask for a weekly chemical exfoliation boost and two tubes of the la roche-posay effaclar duo for general skin decongestion. i'd also asked for MAC's ruby woo which is a fairly standard colour, i know, but they have so many options and i wanted to keep it simple for my mum's sake. she actually bought me two of them because they were a reasonable 16€ which shows how ridiculously overpriced they are here at around the $40 mark. as for the sweetest gift of all, my parents flew home from paris and my mum bought a box of laduree maracons at the airport. unfortunately the macarons are long gone but i have this beautiful box to add to my little collection.
Oh they definitely spoiled you! ^.^ My aunty and uncle were recently in Paris, and before they left I dropped a few hints involving macarons...hehe

Oh my! I am not much of a perfume girl (thanks allergies), but your words of that perfume have me WANTING it. Your mum sounds so sweet to pick these up for you! I take it in Sydney things are pricier? Also I love these photos! You always make me want to make a trip to the beauty store.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes! So awesome, I am also straight edge which is why I love Ian Mackaye so much! He is one of the most humble and kind musicians I have ever met. He is so great live too and his partner is the drummer. I think you might like them! I'd give them a listen. It's rare to meet fellow straight edgers that aren't braggy about it. So yay!
haha thank you! yeah they're definitely more expensive in sydney even though the exchange rate is pretty strong so they shouldn't mark things up as much as they do in shops.
Deleteit's super rare, that's so cool that you're straight edge too! ^_^
They brought back so many nice things - almost makes up for not taking you there, haha. I didn't really take advantage of the famous French pharmacy products when I last visited but I might pay more attention when I go again. Also I seriously can't believe how marked up MAC lipsticks are here, I got one in London after seeing the prices there I'm never paying Australian retail price again.
ReplyDeletei know, it's ridiculous!! and i really didn't take advantage of it either, when i went it wasn't really on my list of priorities because i wasn't really aware of it at all, if i went back again things would be VERY different, haha.

ReplyDeleteLooks like they brought you home so lovely things! My best friend is in Paris right now and I sent her over with a few items to pick up for me as well, one of which was that serum so you must keep me updated on how you're liking it. The REN mask is a great choice as well, that was my first product from REN and I love it. The Guerlain pearls look so interesting, I have never used anything like that before! I think I would be hesitant to even use them up they look so pretty haha!
ReplyDeletei LOVE the REN mask, it makes such a different when i use it! i'm so glad my mum was able to find it for me, i've seen it in the mecca section of myer here and it's so much more expensive than it is overseas.
DeleteAww, lucky girl! Your parents sure did spoil you! So many excellent choices. The REN mask and MAC Ruby Woo couldn't come more highly recommended from me. I still haven't tried Effaclar Duo as I left it back in Perth. Oh man, it was so hard not to bring my whole bathroom over here, haha. I've been so curious about Caudalie's Vinosource range, but I really don't need another serum and my skin isn't really dry, anyway. I have the Guerlain Météorites Powder and I just adore it! It gives a very light sheen to the skin and the balls are just so, so pretty! I really want to try the Paul & Joe primer, but I just bought the Laura Mercier Radiance Primer. I really want to buy something Paul & Joe as the packaging is just the cutest! Oh, I'm dying to go back to Ladurée in Paris! Not gonna lie, the Sydney store is fairly disappointing. :( What is Ladurée without the pretty boxes?! Nevertheless, I'll still buy some macarons and I want to buy a candle!

everything from guerlain is so gorgeous! i love the look of their meteorites powder but i think the primer will do me for now. i've heard so much about the laura mercier primers too, i really want to try one but i think i have enough primers for now anyway.
DeleteI love MAC's Ruby Woo color! It's the perfect color for performing in shows. Enjoy all you presents! xoxo
ReplyDeletePresents from Paris. Aah. Can there be anything better! I really fancy trying the guerlain primer.
ReplyDeleteso loveyl things! Paris is wonmderfull place to...
ReplyDeleteAll of this looks brilliant,I really need to buy a Mac lipstick!
ReplyDeleteWhat a touching, beautiful tradition to receive a new bottle of perfume whenever your parents travel overseas. There's a poetic, romantic, enchanting element to the idea of looking at one's scents and knowing that some of them travelled great distances to reside on your vanity (or wherever one opts to keep them).
ReplyDeleteSuch delightful, marvelous beauty products one and all.

What lovely gifts! The perfume sounds amazing!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely of your parents to pick you up so many gifts! :) I could never afford so many souvenirs especially in Paris haha. I just came back from my trip there yesterday and only bought food gifts (I can't live without their crepes). I like the sound of the REN peel mask, I haven't done one in awhile and I think it's about time! What a beautiful perfume for your lovely collection! xx
ReplyDeletehaha i don't think i could either, when i travel i stay in hostels and try and get by as cheaply as possibly but my parents are in a different position to me, haha. i'm really lucky. :)
DeleteAHHHH GIRL. these look absolutely fabulous. i must admit i'm kind of envious of all these goodies! and awww, 30 years of being together, your parents are the sweetest <3 i, for one, am an absolute lipstick junkie but i have yet to splurge on a MAC lippie because in Malaysia it is crazily overpriced. maybe one of these days i'll find the heart to spend a little more on a lipstick!! also all these beauty products <3 i really need to take better care of my skin instead of just the basic cleanse-and-moisturise routine!
ReplyDeleteit's CRAZY overpriced in australia too and it sucks because there aren't many places to find it cheaper online, it's one of the few brands you really have to travel for to get it cheaper, which sucks. their lipsticks are great quality but they're just not worth the price we have to pay in stores here.
DeleteThat Guerlain perfume looks so pretty and I love the smell as well :)

Lucky lucky! The laduree box looks so cute. You Australian people always tell that the beautyproducts are way cheaper in Europe, I wouldn't dare to ask how expensive it would be in Australia then!! :o La Roche Posay products are the best tho, I love them.
ReplyDeleteThat's fab your parents brought you back all these presents! I really love REN and Caudalie products :)

I love ruby woo lipstick too!! I don't use it much thought! Sometimes I'm just too shy to wear it!
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a beauty-expert, but those guerlain products look super stylish! How sweet of your parents to look out for some of the items of your wishlist :) My father-in-law does that for me too, haha. He sometimes goes to the US for work and shops my fave stores for me ^^ x
ReplyDeleteoh how lovely of your parents! i thought prices here were already over the top but australia seems to take them to a whole other level, wow. How do they justify it seriously? x
ReplyDeleteSo many lovely things from Paris. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the perfume by Guerlain, it smells
gorgeous and the laduree box
is soo cute. :)
