Soundwave

here's my first attempt at making a video! i shot it pretty spur of the moment on my iPhone so unfortunately you won't see any beautiful shallow focus shots since i can't take my DSLR to a festival, but i like how it turned out anyway. it's a video of my day at soundwave festival last weekend. i got to revisit some of my favourite bands from when i was a teenager (yes, i was a raging emo) and my boo harriet and i managed to find our way onto the jaegermeister "elevator" bar too; we bumped into a girl whose friends were running late so she asked if we'd like to go on it with her and of course we said yes! no matter how much time passes it always puts me in a good mood to listen to or see the bands that meant the world to be growing up, so i had a wonderful day!

the music in the video is worm tamer (a place to bury strangers remix) by grinderman from the 12" vinyl single. i only had my holga on me for photos that day so once i get them developed i'll post those too. also, i have been tagged twice now to post seven facts about myself, so although i almost never do things i am "tagged" for, i don't talk about myself that much on this blog so i thought i might as well.

1. music has always been my first love. growing up i couldn’t imagine anything that i would be interested in doing as a career outside of working in the music industry. although i can think of a few other things now, they all involve management of the arts, and my current focus is still on music. i have three jobs, two of which are in the music industry (one for a tour promoter and one for a venue) and i’m hoping to get a “real” full time job in the industry as soon as possible.
2. books are my second love. i’m completely head over heels in love with jack kerouac and all the writers who were involved in the beat generation. i'd give anything to have been able to spend time with them.
3. i have over 35 full sized bottles of perfume – it’s a bit of an obsession.
4. i almost never remember my dreams. i could dream about anything and i wouldn’t have a clue.
5. if i could have lived at any time, it would always, always be the 1950s.
6. baked goods (cakes, slices, biscuits, brownies, pies, etc) are just about my favourite thing in the world. to say i have a sweet tooth is an understatement; all my teeth are sweet teeth.
7. i have always harboured the romantic dream of being a flight attendant, but i’m sure it’s probably not as fun and glamorous as it is in my head.

  1. This video is lovely! And I dabbled in emoism but never quite was brave enough to go all out. I remember loving it when people called me an emo, though, even though I pretended to be annoyed. Ahh, to be thirteen again.

    1. yep, in sydney. you're right, it's just been the festival season, but that means we have a really long wait until summer comes around again. :( thank you! i guess i would say it was a rock and metal festival, and i saw a few bands i was really into when i was a teenager - the used, jack's mannequin, dashboard confessional and a few more. :)

  3. Ohh, the video is lovely! It feels so nice and warm and as if it was such a long time ago... the power of technology is deceiving, and you and your friend's style too of course! Your stlyes make it a bit more vintage and retro :p It seems you guys had a great time!

I like the facts about yourself, I especially can relate to 2, 5 and 6. I'm curious about your holga pictures!!

  6. Looks like you had a great time at Soundwave. I've only been to one a couple of years ago, I kind of wish I'd gone this year as well, since I was a bit of a raging emo in my early teens as well, lol. You guys look so nice in the video!

I love the 1950s for their fashions, I'm not sure if i'd have liked actually living in that time though, haha.

  8. Ooh nice video! Haha I love the part where everyone you were with is also filming on their phones.

Ahh I'm the opposite with the dreams & the sweet "teeth". ;) haha. I have SUCH vivid dreams that I always remember... sometimes it's a bad thing, ha. I confuse real life with dreams sometimes! And I would much prefer vegetables or cheese over dessert! Haha.

  10. You did a pretty damn good job for a first attempt at making a video. Well done! I love the vintage/timeless feel to it and you and your friend are wearing the cutest outfits! I just wear regular denim shorts and singlets to festivals, though I do try to mix it up a little with different colours and patterns. :p

I loved reading your seven random facts tag. I'd say music is my number one love too, but it was something I only discovered when I started uni. I think it's something that's always been with me though because my dad's always been passioniate about music too. I'd love to work in the music industry, but I'd have no clue what to do! I'd love to write about it, but I don't have a journalism degree!

I'm not much of reader, but the Beat Generation totally fascinates me. I'd love to read Jack Kerouac's work. Have you seen the movie, Howl? It's a really great film about Allen Ginsberg.

  14. Oh, I love perfume bottles too. Beautiful, light-catching glass in all sorts of shapes filled with sweet perfume? Too good.

  15. I've never read jack kerouac, but his book "On the Road" is on my to-read list! You should take a picture of your perfume collection! I'm sure it would be a glorious sight.

Don't despair too much about winter! It can be beautiful too. The crisp smell of the cold air, roaring fires, sipping hot chocolate - these are the things that prevent me from moving to California hahahaha. Plus - you can wear cute coats and boots when it is cold!

  16. Love the films. Is it the 8mm app, I've only used my once - you're inspiring me to use it more often!
