Merry Christmas to Me

blushes: deep throat, dolce vita. eyeshadows: molokaï, antananarivo, rangoun & lhasa.

NARS foreplay blush palette with orgasm, a matte pink, matte peach and gold shimmer.

NARS blush in gaiety

first things first, i hope everyone had a great christmas! i think i said it last year but i'm not much of a christmas person. i generally keep my expectations on the low side and it worked in my favour because christmas was actually better than expected this year. i also temporarily lost my sanity and decided going to the city for the boxing day sales would be a fun thing to do. the crowds were insane but i did walk away with some amazing things so i don't regret it, i just think i've had enough for about 5 years until the memory fades and i start to think it's a good idea again.

so this post is a mixture of christmas gifts and sale purchases. the two NARS palettes were snapped up pretty much as soon as i laid eyes on them, both for about half price and both were the last ones left in the shop! the voulez-vous palette is perfect because i really only wear neutral shadows and every colour in it is so wearable. i would've had a much harder time deciding whether or not to buy it if it were full of bright shades i'm not sure i'd get much wear out of, and the blushes are lovely too, i'd actually had my eye on deep throat already so i'm glad to have gotten my hands on it.

the foreplay palette is a really interesting concept, the largest pan is their famous orgasm blush (which i already own and love) and the idea is that the matte peach and pink blushes, combined with the gold shimmer highlight are supposed to be the components that make up orgasm (pretty cheeky calling it the foreplay palette)! as for the single blush in gaiety, this was the number one NARS shade i'd had my eye on, it's the prettiest barbie pink shade and it looks so fresh and doll-like on the cheeks. i was in the city with my mum and we ducked into myer for a wander on the beauty floor and just before we have to leave to meet people for dinner she asks "is there anything you'd like for christmas?" of course the answer is EVERYTHING but with limited time i chose this blush and the clarins gentle exfoliating toner (below).

clarins is one of my favourite skincare brands, and around christmas every year they have such great deals on their products. all of the above (except for the exfoliating toner) came in a pack together that includes a full size beauty flash balm, which i use all the time as a primer, a full size hand & nail treatment cream and generous travel sizes of the one step exfoliating cleanser, eye contour gel, hydraquench cream and the moisture-rich body lotion, as well as the toiletries bag. my mum gave me this pack for christmas this year and the equivalent pack with similar products last year, so i know it retails for around $80.00. if you were to buy the two full-size products on their own you'd already be spending more than that so it's really good value. an extra bonus that my mum took advantage of this year as well as last christmas is when you spend over a certain amount on clarins products you get a set of 6 bon bons with clarins samples inside! definitely the best bon bon prizes i've ever had.

shades: kitten, peony, gerbera, rose, petunia

just LOOK at this palette! as soon as i heard about this i knew i'd have to buy it as a christmas present to myself. i've raved about the stila convertible colours on here before and i own two single shades already (gladiola and petunia) which are two of my favourite blushes, so naturally when they release a 5 colour palette for only slightly more than a single blush buying this is non-negotiable. they have a great formula and the prettiest, most flattering colour range, i really can't recommend them enough.

and finally, all of the above skincare products were bought in the boxing day sales. as with the clarins gift pack, antipodes had put out a full-size cleanser, toner & moisturiser pack for christmas which was being sold for $80 at myer, but on boxing day antipodes products were 30% off so i only paid about $55 for all three - talk about a bargain! i haven't actually tried anything from antipodes before but their manuka honey mask is a cult favourite and i love trying out good quality organic skincare brands like antipodes, grown alchemist and aesop. i've only used each of these a few times so far but they're all really lovely products and i'm so glad i picked them up.

priceline's offering for the post-christmas sales was 40% off all skincare, which of course is the best time to try out a few new products. i've heard so much about the eight hour cream and when i saw the three products from the line in yet another gift pack for $29 less 40% i thought i'd give it a whirl. i hope if any of you decided to hit the shops after christmas that it was as satisfying for you as it has been for me. and more importantly i hope you all spent christmas with people you love and that you're all looking forward to the new year.

  3. What a fabulous makeup haul! I wasn't able to attend Boxing Day sales but hopefully the sales will last a little longer so I can manage to score a few bargains! I am a fan of NARS blushes and have bought mine via kissandmakeupny.com which I would recommend if you have any future plans of repurchasing.

    Happy New Year!

ps: isnt kitten in the stila palette an eyeshadow? or did they make a highlighter version of it?

  8. Those La Roche Posay products are so great. And oh my, I definitely need Nars in my collection soon. I think it's a good thing not to get your expectations high for Christmas. When I'm out celebrating with family I also didn't expect much, but it was a great deal of fun luckily (and ate far too much, obviously). Heck, on Christmas eve I had a power outage just before I was packing to go to my sister's for Christmas. I think it's the little things and the mindset of comfort and joy that makes Christmas so fun each and every year... I have way too much fun before it even starts every year haha :p

  10. NARS always has the cheekiest names for their palettes and colors. You're so lucky that you got these on sale! I didn't even know that they had sales, but I've been in love with their Orgasm shade for a long time. These kits and palettes are sure to last you a loong time!

  12. You definitely lucked out with those NARS palettes! I love that feeling of (somewhat greedy and unwarranted) accomplishment when you snag the "last" of something in a store during a big sale. I usually don't venture out on boxing day either, although this year might not have been too bad since I was away visiting my parents in a much smaller town. Hopefully there will still be some good sales left for the rest of this week!

    & Happy Holidays :)

  13. LOOK AT ALL THE PRETTY! Ahh, you grabbed up some amazing bargains and I'm so jealous! It literally pains me that we have no Mecca concession at any of the Myer stores in WA. :( I work at the main city store and it's nothing like the beautiful Sydney and Melbourne stores! I'm just so devo I can't get my staff discount and spend all my Myer One vouchers there! Oh well, my family got me a gift card for Christmas, so I'm excited to spend that soon! Also, Antipodes was 30% off?! How did I not know this?! In WA, I'm pretty sure they only had 25% off the cosmetics brands I never use!

I don't have a whole lot of NARS products, but I do own the infamous Orgasm blush, which I love too. I have Zen currently on my wishlist, so I may pick that up with my gift card. I love the Clarins toner and Beauty Flash Balm! The toner smells so nice and fresh, kind of like baby shampoo, haha. I've never tried Stila. Everyone loves the Convertible Colours, though I think I was put off cream blushers by a bad experience with the MAC ones. The old formula was just so rubbish! You must try the Antipodes Reincarnation Pure Facial Exfoliator, by the way. It's so lovely!

  14. your beauty products make me drool! I have stopped buying beauty products for a while now. Mainly because I get sample size things and want to use those before buying more. Except for nail polish. I have way too many but I can't stop buying more! haha

  15. Merry Christmas, Jess! You're so lucky to have scored those Nars palettes! I really wish they brought them out more often because their eyeshadows are amazing but having individual pans is so inconvenient. I love that Stila brought out the Colour Me Pretty palette - like you, once I caught wind of it, I KNEW I had to have it. I didn't own any convertible colours before but I remember mentioning to you on our shopping trip that I was dying to try some, and this was the perfect way to try out a few different colours. I think I love Gerbera and Rose the best, and Kitten makes the most beautiful highlight too!

Please do let me know how the Clarins toner goes! As someone who I know has used the Mario Badescu before, I'd like to know how the two compare and which you find better!

    1. merry christmas to you too! i know, i was super lucky! especially with the voulez-vous palette, the colours are so pretty and i like every single one, i'm so happy with it. the stila palette is the best way to try them out, to be honest i'm probably never going to actually finish up a whole blush so even though they're a bit smaller than the single ones it doesn't really matter, especially cause you get to try so many shades.

i'll definitely let you know once i get more of a feel for the clarins one! so far i don't notice much of a difference in the results but i might after a few more weeks of using it.

  17. Isn't it the bee's knees when a holiday exceeds your expectations? I've had some Halloweens and (thanks to my darling husband) birthday's that stand out in that regard for me. All of these items are beautiful. The warm, rich, garden worthy pinks in them have me pining for summer's colour palette already (thankfully, as these items highlight wonderfully, makeup can give us any season we want to enjoy on our skin the whole year through).

  21. Your new NARS pallets looks so beautiful. Such lovely colors that will suit you very well :-) I had to laugh at their names though. I'm not a make up connaisseur and it's the first time I noted their cheeky names!

  22. Damn that's one good haul! I didn't realise skincare and makeup brands had good sales as well.

Haha usually it only takes a year for the Boxing Day sales trauma to fade for me so every year I go I regret it.
