Paris Pt. 1

well hello blog world! thank you for sticking with me through this absence and a big hello to any new readers! i’m currently sitting in a french cafe in brooklyn posting about my time in paris. in the interest of getting on with it i’ve skipped posting about milan and geneva and my fantastic CERN visit since most people probably don’t come to my blog for my enthusiasm about particle physics, so here is part one of paris, a city i’ve only fallen more deeply in love with since my three weeks there in july.

my little studio apartment in montmartre with the cafe des deux moulins at the end of the street, arriving at the apartment to find a note from my airBNB host saying “enjoy your life in paris!”, visiting shakespeare & company on my first day and buying hemingway’s a moveable feast, reading it on the lawn of the sacre-coeur and finishing it in the jardin du luxembourg, lunch at the cafe les deux magots and lunch dessert at cafe de flore, stocking up on french skincare at citypharma, the view from the top of the centre pompidou, seeing my favourite rapper of all time, nas, play illmatic in full, the marche aux fleurs on the ile de la cite, the gardens behind notre dame cathedral, sitting in a green chair by the fountain in the jardin des tuileries, buskers playing on the metro, wandering through the streets of montmartre and up to the square behind the sacre-coeur where all the artists sell their paintings, record shopping at the marche aux puces de st-ouen, pining over vintage dresses at chez sarah and the rasta guy who stopped me to show me a small bottle of essential oils called “moon” and gave me a bracelet, an incredibly delicious rose and raspeberry st honore from laduree and a rose, raspberry & lychee ispahan from pierre herme, and macarons from both, of course.

on a cold windswept street, this was a warm, cheerful place with a big stove in winter, tables and shelves of books,
new books in the window, and photographs on the wall of famous writers both dead and living.

hemingway; a moveable feast

  10. Oh-la-la!!! How sublimely beautiful! You've captured the loveliness, the hustle and bustle, and the indescribable allure of Paris so very well here. I adore the blend of up close/macro shots and those from a further distance. It really gives a sense of that you were (I assume) exploring the city on foot.

    Big hugs,
    ♥ Jessica

  14. You are making me so very excited for my trip next year!! I can't wait to experience Paris on my own terms... the last time I was there, I was dragged around by the other people we were with and I was quite young at the time, so I didn't really think to do my own research so I left feeling quite underwhelmed. I am determined to do everything I want to do this time and make it the best possible experience with my boyfriend, because I know I will love it this time around!!!

    1. that's how i felt about it this time around. i've never had a bad time there but the first two times i don't really remember because they were so long ago, and last time in 2010 i just felt like we didn't have enough time, but i think cause you'll be going with anthony i'm sure he'll be understanding about doing everything you want to do and making sure you have a great time, which i'm sure you will. but yeah, it's important to do your own research so you can make the most of your time there, especially when you're looking forward to it so much, so i'll definitely be able to help you out with some tips when the time comes. :)

  15. What a romance you've captured in these photos! They transcend the blissful time you've spent in Paris and my heart leaped from my chest reading your three blogposts about the lovely experiences you're having. Could please share the details of the airbnb accommodation you stayed at it in Paris? It would be so helpful in planning my own trip or perhaps a blogpost on any helpful travel tips you've learnt travelling (guide to solo travelling & non-english speaking countries?)
